Teenager on stealing spree put before court

Aflao, Dec. 17, GNA – Dela Deku, 18, unemployed, who allegedly broke into five homes in different towns in the Keta District undetected between September and November, this year and stole mainly electrical wares appeared before an Aflao Circuit Court last Thursday. Deku, whose plea on the six charges of unlawful entry and stealing was not taken, was arrested after his sixth break-in when he allegedly stole a number of items, including a Holy Bible. He was remanded in Police custody to be brought before the Court again on January 12, next year.

Chief Inspector Fiadzinu, prosecuting, told the court, presided over by Group Captain Martin Obi-Ntim that Deku’s victims resided in Abutiakope, Kedzikope, Dzelukope, Kitikpodzi and Tegbi. He said the victims, included Ms Vivian Dumehasi, Matron of Keta Secondary School and Moses Kasisami, an employee of Ghana Telecom. Chief Inspector Fiadzinu said Deku’s modus operandi was to strike when the victims were out at work. He said his sixth victim, Arnold Fiadu, a Mason was at work when he broke into his room at Tegbi and took a Holy Bible and other personal items but was arrested on a tip-off.

Chief Inspector Fiadzinu said when Deku’s room was searched, some of Mr. Fiadu’s missing item and those of others reported stolen were found. He said Deku was alleged on his stealing spree to have stolen two sets of television, 160 video cassettes, three VCD players, two standing fans, serving plates, a computer game player, two radio sets and traveling bags containing clothing all estimated to cost 21.5 million cedis. Chief Inspector said Deku admitted the offences in his caution statement.
