Nsuta, (Ash), Nov. 17, GNA – The Nsuta Circuit Court has sentenced a teenage school drop-out to 18 months imprisonment in hard labour for stealing a taxi-cab.
Listowel Johnson Appiah, 19, pleaded guilty to the offence. Police Detective Inspector Patrick Asante told the court presided over by Mr Justice Kofi Nyanteh Akuffo that the incident happened on October 15. The car, a Hyundai Excel, had been parked near the house of the owner, Mr Yaw Agyekum, at Worakese, a suburb of Asante-Mampong. He said at about 0400 hours, Appiah opened the doors of the car, sat behind the wheels and headed towards Kofiase. He said about 15 kilometres into the journey, the cab skidded off the road and landed in a gutter.
Inspector Asante said Appiah sought the assistance of two men who appeared on the scene to remove the car, but as luck would have it, one of them happened to be the brother of the owner. He said the man raised the alarm and the convict was arrested. Inspector Asante said Appiah admitted stealing the car in his caution statement to the police. 17 Nov. 09
