Teenage student remanded for theft

Kumasi April 8, GNA–A 19-year old student of the Kumasi Secondary/Technical School has been arraigned before a Kumasi Circuit Court on charges of stealing, and unlawful entry.

The accused, Anthony Owusu alias Kwame Owusu, a form two student pleaded guilty to the charges and has been remanded in custody to re-appear on April 22.

Police Chief Inspector Regina Kesewaa told the court, presided over by Mr Ernest Yao Obimpeh that on March 3, this year at about 1900 hrs. the students of Opoku Ware Secondary School (OWASS) in Kumasi locked up all their dormitories and the Assembly hall and left for the just ended Super Zonals Athletics Competition which took place at the Kumasi Sports Stadium.

At about 2100 hrs. the same day, Owusu was sighted by a tutor of the school carrying a red sack and coming from the direction of the Assembly Hall.

Chief Inspector Kesewaa said the tutor then suspected Owusu and questioned him about the contents of the sack.

Owusu told the tutor that he did not know the contents of the sack since it was given to him by one student of the school with identification number AF 300.

The tutor, who was not satisfied with the answer took him to his office for further questioning after the sack was opened and searched. A Samsung Digital Video Disk (DVD), a Mascot Machine and two cordless microphones were found in the sack.

Accused was then marched to the Headmaster’s office but still maintained that the sack belonged to the OWASS student. The student whose number was traced after the sack had been seized denied ever knowing the accused. He was consequently handed over to the police. 08 April 05
