A group of angry youth of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana (PCG) in the Techiman Municipality have locked up the church building, saying that they will not allow the premises to be used for church service if their demand of maintaining the resident catechist Madam Vida, was not met.
About 50 angry youth, calling themselves ‘Concerned Youth of the Church’, blocked the entrance to the chapel holding a banner inscribed with ‘ No Vida, No Church’ and rained insults to the Church leaders as well as reporters who went to the scene.
The irate youth took the ungodly conducts to Classic news reporter Bawa Mabi as well as Editor John Antwi Boasiako. It took the intervention of Police CID, who is also a member of the Church, to whisk him away from being lynched by the mob. Some irate youth, who were not happy, even wanted to assault the police personnel who were deployed to maintain law and order
Reports say there has been misunderstanding between the pastor on the Church and some leaders over the transfer on Madam Vida to Diasempa in the Techiman Municipality.
When news reached the church, the some worshipers were seen in groups accusing each other. Other holding horns, ‘gorne-gorne’ and sticks to demonstrate against the pastor in charge who was not present at church when the incident happened.
The recalcitrant members did not appreciate free airtime offered for them every week by the management on Classic FM and attacked the reporters, preventing them from reporting on what was happening and threatened bloodshed if the Madam Vida was not reinstated at Techiman Central Presby.
After succeeding in locking up all the four entrances, some women parishners intervened to no vain.
A mother who came with her beloved ones for thanksgiving service of her newly born baby was outraged over conduct of the youth and was forced to go home.
