Techiman warns against Bawku conflict spillover

Techiman (B/A), May 14, GNA- Oheneba Nana Yaw Frimpong Abubakar Sadick, Dabrehene of the Techiman traditional area has warned Kusasis and Mamprusis resident in the town, not to extend the Bawku conflict to the municipality.

He said any spill over of the conflict to Techiman would be dealt with by the traditional authorities.

Oheneba Frimpong, who is also the Kentenhene, gave the warning at a press briefing at Kenten in Techiman on Tuesday.

The chief said Techiman was a peaceful area and the traditional council “would not tolerate any attempts by settlers to turn the area into a conflict zone”.

He advised Kusasis and Mamprusis operating in the municipality, especially in the Techiman central market, to refrain from antagonizing each other since the market was a place for economic activity. “The traditional council would not hesitate to expel any group of people who would fan conflicts in the market, which was established for strictly economic purposes.

“The council would closely monitor the situation in the market”, he added, and advised citizens to be concerned and help avert any unforeseen circumstances.
