Techiman Municipality records 47,000 voters in phase one

A total of 47,000 eligible voters were registered in Techiman Municipality during the first phase of the on-going voter registration exercise, which started on March 24 and ended on April 2.

There are 50 cluster polling stations located in the Techiman North and South constituencies.

Mr. Samuel Gatoh Kwaa, Municipal Director of Electoral Commission (EC), said this in an interview with the Ghana News Agency in Techiman.

He said apart from some instances, where party agents prevented people allegedly transported to some centres to register, all was calm as dialogue had prevailed in the second phase of the exercise.

The municipal director said apart from the Bonya and Mesidan centres that completed the exercise in the first phase, the remaining 48 polling centres were still open.

He advised political parties to educate their supporters to desist from intimidation and violence to enable the EC to obtain a credible register.

The option for a party agent to challenge a doubtful person at a centre is to fill a challenge form instead of creating unnecessary confusion at the registration centre, Mr Kwaa advised.

The 40-day exercise, which has been divided into four phases of 10-day periods ends on May 5.**
