Techiman Municipal Assembly to provide 19 boreholes to 14 communities

Techiman (B/A), Jan. 19 GNA- The Techiman Municipal Assembly has provided 19 Boreholes in 14 Communities at the cost of 950 million cedis.

The beneficiary communities are: Fiaso; Tanoboase; Mesidan; Mangoase; Twimia Nkwanta; Buoyem, Nkwaeso and Jama/Tenponim. The rest are: Twimia, Bowohomoden, Boakrom, Gyaukrom, Koase and Nkrankrom.

Mr Isaac Osei-Antwi, Techiman Municipal Chief Executive, who made this known to the Ghana News Agency in an interview, said the beneficiary communities contributed five percent towards the project while the Government and the World Bank provided the rest of the money. He said 64 communities would also benefit from 102 boreholes under the Community Based Rural Development project.

The Municipal Chief Executive said, a 160 million cedis Artesian well project undertaken by the Wenchi Water Company Limited had been completed and would be extended to neighbouring Forikrom this year. Mr Osei-Antwi said a total of 352 Household Latrines had been completed in 24 Communities in the Municipality under the Community Water and Sanitation Programme.

US Peace Corps are assisting in the construction of 52 household latrines at Tanoboase.

Mr Osei-Antwi said 400 million cedis had been spent on the provision of KVIP latrines for schools in the Municipality. Mr David Tontrong, Municipal Water and Sanitation Team Leader, said the project beneficiaries have been exposed to the techniques of maintaining the facilities to prolong their long life span.
