Techiman Magazine workers embarks on demo

CLASSIC FM Techiman B/A; Members of Eureka Garages Association of Techiman in the Brong Ahafo Region have embarked on an eight-hour demonstration against the police in Techiman for what they say, Police harassment against their customers.

The protest which started at 7:30 ended at 11am am saw over hundred people from Techiman Magazine who believed the police are making them poor.

The Fitters were seen with red bands on their heads and wrists to demonstrate their grievances to the Techiman Municipal Assembly and the Traditional Council. They’ve petitioned the Regional Minister, Interior Minister and the IGP to ask the police to relocate their check point.

According to the fitters, the harassment of the drivers who intend sending their vehicles for repairs is hindering their work as drivers refuse to come to the magazine because of the fear of being arrested by the police. They further served notice that if the police continue to mount that road barrier they will invade the place and engage the police in a fight which will not augur well for peace.

According to the Chairman of Eureka Garages Association, Mr. John Nkrumah, the new magazine was demarcated to them by the Traditional Council and the Municipal Assembly and much as they are ready to move there in order to decongest the town, the police presence is deterring car owners from patronizing the place.

Mr. Nkrumah also appealed to the Assembly to use its bye laws to move all those workers who are still in the old magazine into the new site.
