Techiman gets reconstituted gari producers and marketing society

An 11-member executive committee of the re-constituted Techiman Central Market Co-operative Gari Producers and Marketing Society, has been inaugurated with 31 year-old Mrs Elizabeth Kyeremeh of Techiman, as president.

Other members are Mrs Margaret Amponsah of Asueyi as the vice-president, Mrs Comfort Kuma of Mesidan as treasurer and Madam Attah Afia of Tuobodom, assistant treasurer.

The rest are Mrs Agnes Takyiwaah of Mesidan, Mrs Akosua Agyeiwaah of Tuobodom, Opanin Anane of Asueyi, Madam Ernestina Esaah, Madam Mercy Nyarkor, both of Buoyem, whilst Mrs Rita Amoakoah of Techiman was elected as new members.

The committee, which would be in office for three years, would, among others, help to find solutions to problems impeding their submission of annual returns and accounts to the Registrar of the Department of Co-operatives as well as intensify revenue mobilization.

Addressing the society’s first annual general meeting, Mr Joseph Afriyie, Techiman District Co-operative Officer, asked members to unite even though they are from different towns operating at the central market.

He said the government preferred to deal with recognized co-operative societies instead of individuals and called on the members to desist from backbiting and blackmailing.

Mr James Okyere, Senior Assistant Co-operative Officer, said the society last year posted 2.8 million cedis as net surplus of a total income of 7.2 million cedis and expended 4.4 million cedis.

He deplored the committee’s spending of more than 1.041 million cedis on litigations, which he said, had ruined its profitability status.

Madam Martha Kuma, market queen, asked members to help remove bottlenecks militating against the growth of the society to derive more income.

Mr Eric Kobina Ahen, Techiman District Investigator of the Commission on Human Rights and Administrative Justice, cautioned members not to do anything that might jeopardize the society’s activities
