Techiman Assembly spends 13 million cedis on polio eradication

Techiman (B/A), Feb. 14, GNA – The Techiman Municipal Assembly spent more than 13 million cedis on the National Polio Eradication Programme in the municipality last year.

Mr. Isaac Osei-Antwi, Municipal Chief Executive, who disclosed this in an interview with the Ghana News Agency at Techiman named the areas covered under the programme as Asantanso, Techiman, Tuobodom, Forikom, Tanoso, Offuman, Aworowa, Nsuta and Buoyem.

He pledged that the Assembly would continue to support the health sector and called for the collaboration of health personnel and the Assembly to draw up a programme to curb communicable diseases in the municipality.

Dr. Gladstone Kesse, Municipal Director of Health Services, said 38,000 children were immunised, which exceeded the target of 36,000, representing 101 per cent coverage.

He announced that Feb 27-29 had been set for the immunization exercise and called on nursing mothers to make their children below five years available.

Madam Margaret Aboligu, Municipal Public Health Nurse underscored the need for parents to discard certain religious creeds and give priority to the good health of their children.
