Techiman Assembly sets higher revenue target

Techiman (B/A), Dec. 22, GNA – The Techiman Municipal Assembly envisages to collect an estimated GHC 1,051,570.00 as internally generated revenue for 2010, as against this year’s target of GHC 807,110. Mr. Alex Kyeremeh, Techiman Municipal Chief Executive, announced this at the third ordinary meeting of the assembly in Techiman, which was attended by representatives of decentralized departments, boards and corporations.

He said revenue from market rates and tolls, property rates as well as businesses would be strengthened and monitored, and that as a first step the daily market toll had been increased from 10 pesewas to 20 pesewas. Mr. Kyeremeh decried the abysmal performance in the collection of property rates and hinted the assembly might decide to privatize the exercise.

The MCE lauded the increase in the District Development Fund and said the Assembly had earmarked GHC 10,000.00 to evacuate refuse at Anyimana, Dwomor and Wangaraline as part of efforts to improve sanitation in the Municipality. He entreated assembly members to educate the populace to avoid acts that would set off bushfires during the harmattan season.
