Techiman Assembly provides 16 million cedis towards education on NHIS

Techiman (B/A) Feb. 14, GNA – Techiman Municipal Assembly has provided 8.4 million cedis out of its projected budget of 16 million cedis towards the sensitisation of the people about the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS).

Mr. Isaac Osei-Antwi, Municipal Chief Executive, who announced this at a meeting with personnel of the Ghana Health Service at Techiman, said there had been a positive response from the general public for the implementation of the scheme.

He said various committees had been set up to ensure the success of the programme.

Mr. Osei-Antwi said the Assembly had proposed to put up a semi-detached bungalow at the Nsuta Health Centre, near Techiman, at the cost of 200 million cedis under the HIPC programme while the Tuobodom Health Centre would also be rehabilitated.

“The Assembly has provided 4.7 million cedis towards the construction of a clinic at the central market to help promote the health of the traders, visitors and inmates of the day-care centre, the Municipal Chief Executive said.

Mr. Osei-Antwi said the Assembly had also released 133 million cedis for the erection of a wall around the health centre at Offuman and 4.9 million cedis for the construction of a nurses’ bungalow there. In a bid to provide good health delivery, he added, the Assembly had also spent 16.9 million cedis for the extension of electricity and water to the new offices of the Ministry of Health.

Dr. Gladstone Kesse, Municipal Director of Health Services, said a community health participatory system had been introduced to improve and increase quality health delivery in the country.

Under the system, members of the community would be made to identify a location acquired by the community while the Ghana Health Service would provide trained personnel to explain the rationale behind the NHIS to them.

Dr. Kesse said the Assembly had also embarked on an educational programme to enhance the collection of premiums yet to be determined in support of the scheme.
