Techiman, Sept 15, GNA – The Techiman Municipal Assembly has so far realised 2.8 billion cedis out of its internally generated revenue target of 4.8 billion cedis for the year. The assembly last year collected 2,808,511,199 billion cedis, representing 128 percent, to exceed its revenue target of 2,178,320 billion cedis.
Mr Prince Yaw Donyina, Municipal Chief Executive, said this at the fourth ordinary and the last assembly meeting.
He said during the four-year period, the assembly received total grant of 60,718,992 billion cedis and that these funds were used in undertaking various projects in the district.
He expressed regret that only 330,524,409 million cedis out of 1,763,798,959 billion cedis disbursed in 1998 as poverty alleviation loans had been recovered.
Mr Donyina said the recovery rate was not the best and appealed to out-going members of the assembly to help the task force, formed for the recovery exercise.
He said the Assembly disbursed a total of 216 million cedis to support 20 farmers as part of the poverty reduction strategy and also supported 2,000 maize farmers with seed maize, fertilizers and weedicides on credit.
The MCE noted that the major challenge of the Assembly was waste management and called for more education to enable the people to observe environmental sanitation, by using refuse bins placed at vantage points. The Presiding Member, Mr. Emmanuel Twi-Yeboah, asked the out-going members to continue to get involved in the assembly’s activities and advised aspiring members and stakeholders to conduct their campaigns with zeal, circumspection and devoid of insults.
