Techiman and Kumasi traditional relations smoothened

Traditional relations between the Manhyia Palace and the Techiman Traditional Council, which for some time now was strained, has begun to warm.

As a sign of improvement of the ties between the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, and the Omanhene of Techiman, Oseadeeyo Akumfi Ameyaw the Fourth, a delegation of chiefs from the Techiman Traditional Area, on Tuesday visited Manhyia.

Led by Baffour Asare Twi-Brempong II, the Adontenhene, the delegation was there to pay a courtesy call on the Asantehene, and to officially welcome him from his recent medical check-up in South Africa.

The delegation, in line with Akan custom and tradition, presented to the Asante King, drinks, sheep and a truck load of yam.

There had been tensions between the two stools over the elevation of some chiefs in the Tano-Subin area, geographically located in the Brong-Ahafo Region, into paramountcy status by the Asantehene.

These chiefs owe allegiance to the Golden Stool, but the Techiman Traditional Council made a rival claim to them.

Baffour Twi-Brempong said they were eager to restore, strengthen and deepen relations with Manhyia, adding that it was their prayer that God will continue to bless the Asantehene with good health.

Otumfuo Osei Tutu thanked the delegation for the visit, and underlined the need for traditional rulers to provide quality leadership to bring progress to the people.

They should focus on peace building, and do more to calm tension in the society, the Asantehene further advised.
