Tearful 75 year-old watchman in court for defilement

Cape Coast, May 24, GNA- There was drama at a Circuit Court in Cape Coast on Tuesday, when a 75-year old watchman, broke down in tears for being accused of defiling a 12-year old girl.

Issah Busanga pleaded not guilty and vehemently denied the charge, saying he could never engage in such an act since he has a wife and children.

He was however remanded in custody and is to be re-arraigned on Tuesday, June 7.

Prosecuting, Police Chief Inspector Augustine Amonoo, told the court presided over by Mr Mustapha Logoh, that in March this year, the accused lured the victim who had visited the uncle at Ayiko- Ayiko a suburb of Cape Coast to a public bathroom and defiled her on two occasions. Chief inspector Amonoo said the girl did not inform her uncle about the incidents, but when she returned to Accra, her mother detected that she had missed her menstrual period and questioned her. The girl then narrated what Busanga had done to her, leading to his arrest.
