Teachers Want Payment Of Grants Streamlined

Mamponteng (Ash), – An appeal has been made to the Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT) to ensure that the processing and payment of death grants and retirement benefits are decentralised to the regions to eliminate delays. The appeal was contained in a resolution adopted by the Kwabre District branch of the GNAT and presented by Mr Kofi Agyei, its secretary, at the end of its third triennial delegates conference at Mamponteng. The delegates suggested that for the Free Compulsory Universal Basic Education (FCUBE) programme to be successful, it is important that all heads of basic schools be detached to ensure close monitoring and supervision. The resolution also called on the GNAT to take measures directed at revisiting the proposed housing scheme for teachers. The delegates stressed the need for the GNAT to set up comprehensive mechanisms that would help pave the way for the establishment of a teachers bank to cater adequately for the financial needs of teachers. The resolution pledged the district branch’s commitment to the organisation and reactivation of all dormant circles of the GNAT at all levels.
