Madam Mavis Oparebea Yirenkyi, Asuogyaman District Education Director has urged teachers to upgrade their skills to meet the changing demands in education.
She indicated that, there is the need for teachers to upgrade themselves through refresher courses, sandwich and other educational programmes to enhance their ability to deliver.
The call was made at the fourth Eastern Regional celebration of World Teacher’s Day at New Akrade in the District on the theme: “Unite for Quality Education.”
She asked teachers to stand tall among other professions to achieve their desired target, despite the hardships faced by them.
Mr Antwi- Boasiako Sekyere, Regional Minister, said for teachers to promote education, it requires complete commitment, dedication and devotion with less inclination towards immediate and material rewards, which eschews laziness and excuses.
He advised teachers to be knowledgeable in information communication technology in these contemporary times, exhibit discipline and show moral uprightness to lead in the crusade of quality education.
Mr Boasiako-Sekyere explained that, education without morals and demonstration of high sense of discipline is useless.
He called on teachers to let their impact be felt more than ever at the trying moments of the nation and the high demand for quality education.
Mr Thomas Baafi, Deputy General Secretary of Ghana National Association of Teachers, said there is the need for teachers to meet the needs of the future generation to ensure that they have the basic fundamentals of education.
He added that, quality education could be built on reforms, adequate education materials, committed and enthusiastic teachers who are result oriented and healthy motivated pupils committed to the goals of education.
He called on teachers to rededicate themselves to the profession and called on the very few who absent themselves from work to desist from such unethical behaviour.
Four teachers were rewarded for their dedicated service to the teaching profession. They are: Madam Emelia Okran, who received a 32- inch flat screen television, Mr Francis Doe was given a double decker fridge, Madam Kate Yeboah, had a four burner gas cooker and Mr Edmund Anane Frimpong, received a double decker fridge.
Seven other teachers from the District were rewarded for their hard work.
