Koforidua, March 27, GNA- The New Juaben Municipal Chief Executive, Nana Kwesi Adjei Boateng has called on teachers to continue to be role models and inspire children under their care to become good citizens. He stressed the need for teachers to do away with drunkenness since the society look upon them for inspiration.
Nana Adjei Boateng who was addressing a meeting of the University of Education of Winneba (UEW) 2003/2004 internship group, on a year’s teaching practice in the New Juaben Municipality commended them for their decision to become teachers to serve as manpower development for the nation. He asked them to ensure that they develop the children under their care to be disciplined, honest, dedicated, and also inculcate in the children the country’s culture values
Nana Adjei Boateng said the government is committed to the improvement of facilities in the country’s Universities. ‘We can get all the good things if we work hard and increase productivity”, he said, adding, “as a people our development should bring progress”.
On the HIV/AIDS, Nana Adjei Boateng asked them to use part of their class hours to educate the children on the dangers of the disease in order not to contract it.
He appealed to teachers and public servants who are demanding the payment of CAP 30 to exercise restraint instead of embarking on strike actions to force the government to implement it.
Mr Equity Kwaku Sagodo, Assistant Eastern Regional Secretary of GNAT, said there are 287,930 primary, 81,293 JSS and 44,212 SSS schools with 22,000 teachers in the region.
He therefore asked them to keep the mantle of quality education to enhance high educational standards.
Mr. George Amega-Dunu, Coordinator of the Group said members posted to the New Juaben are from the Winneba, Mampong and Kumasi Campuses. He explained that they have completed three years with one-year internship in Second Cycle schools in the New Juaben, which ends in June, this year after which they would graduate. The meeting was therefore to interact and share ideas with government officials.
