Nkawie (Ash), Dec 14, GNA – Madam Irene Comfort Badu, the Atwima-Nwabiagya District School Health Education Programme (SHEP) Co-ordinator, has asked teachers to regularly screen their pupils to identify some hidden diseases. The exercise, she said, should be conducted in collaboration with the local health care authorities.
Madam Badu, who was speaking to newsmen at Nkawie on Tuesday, said most pupils have serious hidden chronic diseases, which, she said affected their work rate and therefore undermine effective teaching and learning. She urged teachers to promote the adolescent reproductive health status of school pupils and also encourage parent-child communication and counselling in the schools and the communities.
This, Madam Badu explained, would help the pupils plan properly and make informed choices and decisions. She noted that the health education programme was crucial in enhancing quality education and called on the Ghana Education Service to allocate funds and logistics to promote the programme.
