Teachers to demonstrate over unpaid arrears and improper placement

Takoradi, Jan. 30, GNA – A group of teachers who graduated between 2004 and 2005 have threatened to go on a peaceful demonstration to demand payment of their salary arrears and their proper placement on the government’s payroll.

The teachers said they have not been placed on the correct salary scale of 10.2 and are still receiving allowance instead salaries. Briefing the media Mr. Charles Mensah, the Interim Secretary of the aggrieved teachers who are mostly serving in the Shama Ahanta East Metropolis, said they received between 700,000 and 800,000 cedis a month.

“We are going through harsh economic conditions due to the improper placement on the Ghana Education Service (GES) and Controller and Accountant General’s department (CAGD) payroll system,” he said. Mr Ayub Morgan, the Metropolitan Director of Education, explained to the teachers that the change to the IPPD 1 and IPPD 2 by the CAGD had accounted for the problem.
