Teachers threaten to boycott classes

Teachers and pupils of Nyinahin Presbyterian Primary and Junior High School (JHS) have threatened to boycott classes owing to the incessant defecation in their classrooms.

For the seventh time this year, classrooms, floors and blackboards have been smeared with human faeces.

The development negatively affects teaching and learning, and pupils have to waste a chunk of school hours to clean faeces before they settle down to learn.

Stephen Yeboah, Atwima-Mponua District Chief Executive (DCE) and members of the District Security Committee (DISEC), visited the school to interact with the authorities and also assess the situation.

Defecation in the classroom has been commonplace in the area, where some unscrupulous persons take advantage of lapses in the security to perpetrate the act even though toilet facilities are available. Mr Yeboah asked the teachers to exercise restraint since DISEC was strengthening its monitoring system to arrest the culprits.

Antwi Boateng, head teacher of the school, described the act as ‘barbaric’ and warned those involved to desist from such acts.

Collins Opoku-Boah, School Management Committee Chairman, called on the citizens to assist the police to arrest the perpetrators.

Meanwhile, the watchman of the school, Azumah Atani, who has been arrested, is helping the police in their investigations.
