Teachers tell colleagues to stop striking

We are calling upon GNAT and NAGRAT to rescind their decision and return to the classroom while negotiations continue.

We believe that the leadership of our union has placed us all in an untenable disposition where their needs are being placed over and above the original concerns of teachers.

We also believe that it is highly reprehensible for the leadership of our Union to act unilaterally without taking on board the legitimate concerns of its members.

Teachers’ strike at this particular moment leads to avoidable inconvenience to parents and have an adverse effect upon the lives of the children that we are supposed to serve.

We are confident that ongoing discussions about the grievances of teachers would result in a course of action that is both acceptable to government and the Unions.

Some of the issues teachers have raised are already being addressed. We are fully aware of the efforts of the NDC Government has made in addressing the concerns of teachers and are therefore giving our leadership an ultimatum to direct our striking colleagues to return back to the classroom or we will advise ourselves concerning our continued membership of the Union.
