Teachers receive training in technology

North Eastern Christian Academy (NECA), a private institution is training 28 teachers through Proinfo Education Limited of Accra on SMART Technology at its Information Communication Technology Centre in Yendi in Northern Region.

SMART Technology provides content base, structure, flexible, dynamic, collaborative and digital solution to the challenging problems of quality of teaching and learning, especially science and mathematics through the use of visualisation and interactivity.

Reverend Emmanuel Kwabena Mustapha, Home Missionary of the North Ghana Baptist Convention who opened the training, said students learnt better when they could visualize what is being taught.

He said the objective of the school is to implement SMART Technology infrastructure in all NECA classrooms within a year, to enable teachers to manage the facilities more effectively and efficiently in teaching and learning.

He said the training seeks to equip students to fit into any institution they find themselves on the job market.

Rev Mustapha said the academy, which was established in September 2008 in Yendi, with12 students now have 513 students.

He noted that the training programme would enable both teachers and students to catch-up with the rest of the world in technology education.

Mr Desmond Koranteng Sampong, Training Consultant of Proinfo Education Limited, said SMART Technology is widely used by schools in the United Kingdom, United States, Canada, Japan, Australia, Europe, Middle East and South Africa.
