Teachers living accommodation completed at Anyinawusu

Anyinawusu (Ash), April 6, GNA – Residents of Anyinawusu, near Kwanfinfin in the Atwima-Mponua district have completed the construction of a three-bedroom teachers’ bungalow through self-help at the cost of 80 million cedis.

The district assembly donated 50 bags of cement and four packets of roofing sheets towards the project.

Nana Osei Kwadwo, chief of the town, announced this at a durbar organised at Anyinawusu on Tuesday to discuss with the district education directorate pertinent problems that affect education in the area.

Chiefs, unit committee members, School Management Committee (SMC), Parent-Teacher Association (PTA), religious groups, teachers and other opinion leaders attended the durbar. Nana Osei Kwadwo called on the education directorate to immediately effect the transfer of the headteacher, Mr Stephen Boakye and Mr Kwame Owusu, a teacher, whom he accused of administrative inefficiency, persistent absenteeism and disrespect to the chiefs and people of the area.

Both Mr Boakye and Mr Owusu denied the allegation by the chief and rather accused the community of being hostile towards teachers posted to the area.

Mr Eddy Obeng-Darko, the Atwima-Nwabiagya District Director of Education, called for co-operation between the school and the community to improve quality teaching and learning. He said the directorate would continue to provide the needed personnel, logistics and infrastructure to adequately improve education standards in the district.

He cautioned the teachers against acts that would not only undermine effective teaching and learning but also impugn the integrity and image of the profession.

Mr Obeng-Darko assured the community that the directorate would conduct thorough investigation into the allegations levelled against the teachers and adopt appropriate measures to promote uninterrupted teaching and learning.
