Teachers in Nanumba District join strike action

Bimbilla(NR), Oct.10, GNA – Teachers of the Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT) in the Nanumba District of the Northern Region have embarked on an indefinite strike to demand better salaries and working conditions.

In a statement issued in Bimbilla on Tuesday and signed by Mr Sulemana Alhassan spokesman for the teachers and copied to the press, said they had taken the action following the inability of the National Executives of GNAT to negotiate satisfactorily with Government for better salaries and improved working conditions.

The statement said the strike action took effect from Thursday October 5 and they would only return to the classroom when teachers were treated like other service providers.

“Teachers do not want to be paid on the Ghana Universal Salary Structure (GUSS). We need a new salary structure that would improve our lives,” the statement said. 10 Oct. 06
