Teachers Diplomas to be accredited

Enchi (W/R), Feb. 9, GNA – Papa Owusu Ankomah, the Minister of Education, Science and Sports, has said the National Accreditation Board would accredit diplomas awarded by teacher training colleges when they are upgraded into tertiary institutions. This is to ensure that the diplomas are awarded in line with international standards, he said.

Papa Owusu Ankomah was addressing separate meetings of staff and students of Enchi Teacher Training College and Wiawso Teacher Training College on Wednesday.

He was on a three-day tour of the Western Region to ascertain the state of infrastructure at educational institutions and departments under his ministry.

Papa Owusu Ankomah said the accreditation of diplomas of teacher training colleges would also ensure that the colleges maintained high academic and moral standards.

He advised teachers not to use the profession as a stepping-stone to other professions because the rate at which teachers are changing to other professions is high. 09 Feb 07
