Teachers attend forum on insurance scheme

Accra, Nov. 22, GNA- Teachers in the Ablekuma District on Friday organised a forum at Mamprobi on the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) and their pension scheme with a call on government to use two-and-half percent service tax to fund the scheme instead of workers contributions to the SSNIT.

The contended that the two-and-half percent service tax should be made permanent as source of funding to take care of the NHIS.

Nana Kwesi Nkrumah Appre III, the district GNAT secretary said if funding of the scheme was going to be based on SSNIT contributions, workers must be convinced that it would not affect their pension.

The NHIS Implementation System Consultant, Nana Kwesi Amoo, hinted that using SSNIT fund would create equal access to let everyone gets the opportunity to health care delivery. He said children under 18 years were excluded in contributing and assured the teachers that a mechanism to ensure that the scheme is not mismanaged has been put in place.
