Teachers ask for salary arrears after SSSS migration

Accra, May 16, GNA – The Ghana National Association of Teachers on Monday requested the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission to give a definite statement on when salary arrears would be paid to teachers.

A statement issued in Accra and signed by Mrs Irene Duncan Adanusa, General Secretary of GNAT, said some employees of the Ghana Education Service (GES) got some increases in their salaries based on their placement on the Single Spine Salary Structure (SSSS) in March this year but the government had not paid their arrears.

The Statement said GNAT had already written to the Commission on the issue but the 93Government has decided not to pay the arrears to teachers”.

“Considering the anxiety and nervousness on the teachers’ front concerning the issue of salary arrears, GNAT is requesting that your Office comes out with a definite statement as to when the arrears would be paid to teachers,” the statement told the Commission.

The Government fixed the effective date for payment of wages under the SSSS for January 2010.
