Ejisu (Ash), Nov 7, GNA – Reverend Kwame Opoku, Circuit Supervisor for Ejisu of the Ejisu-Juaben District Directorate of Education, has advised teachers not to punish children in school for offences committed at home.
He said it was wrong for parents to abdicate their responsibilities to discipline their own children to teachers who are only partners to help in their moral and academic upbringing. Rev Opoku cautioned teachers on corporal punishment since the 1961 Education Act on how to use the cane was still in force. Touching on some of his observation during the tour, he expressed dissatisfaction about the emerging trend of wearing skimpy dresses especially “mini skirts” among young female teachers. The circuit Supervisor said such dresses should not be worn to school since it is not decent and the children under their tutelage stand the risk of blindly copying them. “Teachers are supposed to be role models and not bad examples to compound the already worse situation of moral decadence in the society”, he said.
