The Coalition of Concerned Teachers, Ghana (CCT-G) has warned of embarking on a strike action if government does not take immediate steps to pay members their transfer grants and incremental credits.
According to the teacher union, its demand is in accordance with a ruling by the National Labour Commission.
Speaking to journalists in Accra over the issue, National President Ernest Opoku said in their case the 2015 budget captures it.
“The ruling from [National] Labour Commission was that the issue of incremental credit is supposed to be paid and we are sure that 2015 budget has some portions of salary arrears that is due teachers and therefore we think that the money has to be paid,” he said on Wednesday, August 12.
Some striking public sector workers have been warned of likely forfeiture of their salaries.
The Ministry of Employment and Labour Relations on Tuesday issued a statement, charging heads of state institutions to submit names of striking workers to the Ministry of Finance for compilation after Friday, August 14.
But CCT-G insists their demands are in place as the payment of the incremental credits, for instance, makes logistics such as chalk and assessment books available before the next academic year.
“We will not like to face the numerous challenges when such move is made,” Mr Opoku warned.
