Teacher Trainees appeals to Government to fulfil salary adjustment

Dzodze (V/R), Aug. 16, GNA – The President of Teacher Trainees’ Association of Ghana – Volta Sector, Mr Kuagbezi Nelson has appealed to Government to fulfil its promise to upwardly adjust the allowances of trainees in line with the recent salary adjustment of teachers.

Mr Kuagbezi said this in a communiqu=E9 issued at the end of the 12th Annual Delegates Congress of the Volta Sector of the Teacher Trainees’ Asociation of Ghana held in Dzodze from August 11 to 16, under the theme “The Teacher Trainee: An indispensable Tool for Democratic Dispensation.”

The communique, a result of issues that came up for discussion during the congress stated “we also wish to appeal to Government through the Ministry of Education, Science and Sports to seriously consider increasing the feeding grant of trainees.

Mr. Kuagbezi said the current 80 Ghana Pesewas per day was inadequate and had not been helped by the recent increases in prize of food commodities.

“Congress is calling on stakeholders in education to consider reviewing and enforcing the code of conduct for teachers in training to commensurate the with current status of the colleges. “Congress is also calling on stakeholders to seriously consider the timing of other activities such as Untrained Teachers Diploma in Basic Education (UTDBE) Programme, Sandwich Programme, in-service training for tutors within the semester and tutors leaving college to attain Masters Degree.”

The President also called on Government to expedite action on infrastructural developments such as libraries and laboratories. “Congress is appealing to Government to work out modalities to fast track the payment of salaries to the first batch of teachers of the Diploma in Basic Education.

He urged teacher trainees’ to comport themselves in this electioneering year and warned them to distance themselves from all forms of violence and intimidation to ensure free and fair elections.
