Teacher students cautioned against acts that would affect their career

Offinso (Ash), July 11, GNA – Nana Kwasi Poku Asiedu II, Kokotehene and Principal of Offinso Teacher Training College, has advised teacher trainees to be committed to their studies and refrain from indiscipline and acts that would affect their chosen professional career.

Teaching, he said, is a noble and respectable career and teachers are expected to provide exemplary model of behaviour not only for the children but also the society.

Nana Poku Asiedu was speaking to the Ghana News Agency at Offinso after formally assuming office as the 12th and the first Offinso citizen to be appointed principal of the college since its establishment in 1950.

He advised the students to inculcate good morals in their students, show concern for their welfare and co-operate with the community in disciplining them.

He also urged the teachers to identify peculiar problems of individual students, the social norms concerning discipline and enforce code of conduct for them.

Nana Poku Asiedu said it is the responsibility of the teacher to be knowledgeable and conversant with the different potentials, interests and abilities of their students and tap the human resources and opportunities available to develop them.

He said it is also their professional obligation to guide the students to make the right choices for their career programmes to reduce drop out rate in the school system.

Nana Poku Asiedu expressed his appreciation and gratitude to the Ghana Education Service, the Methodist Church, Offinso traditional council, the staff and entire student body for their support and encouragement and hoped they would continue to assist him to maintain the academic and moral reputation of the college.
