Teacher Sentenced For Assaulting Alleged Husband Snatcher

Hohoe, Sept 11, GNA – Mercy Aniwa, a teacher of the E. P. Junior High School in Hohoe, has been sentenced to a fine of GHc200 or in default serve an eight-month jail term in hard labour for assaulting and unlawfully entering the premises of Ms Christine Adenyo, a staff of Hohoe Municipal Hospital.

Mercy, who pleaded guilty to the charges, was ordered by the Hohoe Circuit court to compensate Ms Adenyo with Ghc400. Police Inspector, Emmanuel Kpodo, prosecuting, told the court presided over by Mr Edward Apenkwa that Mercy who suspected complainant of flirting with her husband, unlawfully entered the office on May 19, this year, with the intent of assaulting Ms Adenyo, even though, on top of the door was written “out of bounds”.

He said Mercy attacked complainant by holding her hair firmly and hitting her head hard on a desk on which she was writing, shoved her down and began stamping on her stomach, thereby causing bodily pains. Mr Kpodo said in the process of the scuffle complainant shouted for help, which drew witnesses to the scene, who separated them. He said complainant reported the matter to the Police and was issued with a medical form to attend hospital. Mr Kpodo said complainant’s sickness worsened on May 25, and was again admitted to hospital and discharged after one week. He said another bout of sickness sent complainant to the Kpando hospital and she was discharged after three days, all resulting from the trashing.

Police therefore charged Mercy after investigations and subsequently sentenced her. 11. 09. 09
