Teacher remanded for stealing a sheep

Juaso, (Ash) July 22, GNA – The Juaso Circuit Court, presided over by Mr Justice S.K. Sarpong Appiah, has ordered that a 32-year-old teacher be held in prison custody for allegedly stealing a sheep valued at GH¢45.00.

Owusu Welbeck, popularly known as 93Teacher Appiah”, denied the offence and would re-appear on August 10.

Police Inspector Emmanuel Ofori told the court that the complainant was a farmer and an Arabic teacher at Adansi, near Asankare, where the accused also teaches.

On July 18, at about 0700 hours, the complainant was in the mosque teaching when he received a message that the Unit Committee Chairman was looking for him.

The prosecution said the complainant came out only to be told that Owusu had been caught with a stolen sheep and that he should go and verify if the animal was his.

He said before he could get there, the accused had managed to free himself from his captors and escaped.

He identified the sheep and Owusu was later arrested in his Asankare hideout.
