Teacher committed by court for manslaughter

Aflao, July 28, GNA – An Aflao Circuit Court has committed a teacher for trial for manslaughter at the Ho High Court. Seth Amuzu Dorkenoo, 32, allegedly terminated the pregnancy of his 20-year-old niece, Charlotte Hornam whom he had put in the family way, leading to her death.

Inspector of Police, Kofi Frimpong told the court that the accused threw the body of the deceased into the sea at Aflao and it was washed ashore in Lome, Togo.

He said on August 8, 1999 the deceased confided in her younger sister that she was visiting the accused person to terminate a pregnancy but failed to return.

Her body was transferred to the Accra Police Hospital where an autopsy revealed that her death was due to “a perforation in the uterus”, which was an indication of criminal abortion.
