Kumasi, July 2, GNA – Tuberculosis (TB) patients have been advised to seek early treatment in order to prevent them from dying pre-maturely.
Mrs Grace Dwomoh, Kumasi Metropolitan Health Co-ordinator of the Department of Community Development, who gave the advice, said TB was not caused by witches as was being claimed by some people, but rather an airborne disease which was curable when reported for treatment early. She was addressing a day’s training seminar on income generation and health organised by the Kumasi Diocesan Women’s Fellowship of the Anglican Church at the Saint Anne’s Anglican Church at Ashanti New town in Kumasi on Thursday.
The seminar, which was attended by women fellowships leaders from the various archdeaconries under the diocese, was aimed at equipping them with income generating skills to enable them generate extra income to support their families and the activities of the church. It was also to educate them on common and preventable diseases to enable them lead healthy lives and also detect ailments early for medical attention.
They were taught how to prepare weanimix, maize crisp, fried plantain, seed and herb drinks as well as chocolate making. Mrs Dwomoh said TB was causing harm to many families and there was the need to give it the necessary attention to prevent it from spreading in the society.
She advised the women to always open their windows for proper ventilation and avoid overcrowded places to prevent them from getting the disease.
Mrs Grace Osei, Regional Women’s Work Supervisor of the Department of Community Development, who took the women through the income generating training, urged them to take it seriously to enable them impart the knowledge acquired to the members of their churches. She said women played a major role in the family and there was the need for them to learn simple but profitable things to support the family.
Mrs Rosaline Mensah, President of the diocesan women’s fellowship, urged the women to give proper moral training to their children to enable them grow up to become responsible adults. She urged them to put the knowledge acquired to good use to make them self-sufficient to improve their living standards and ensure proper health for their families. 2 July 04
