TB Joshua’s guest house collapses, many feared dead

A rescue operation is underway in Lagos after a building linked to Nigerian preacher T.B Joshua’s megachurch collapsed.

This is according to the country’s emergency relief agency.

The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) said the building — a guesthouse for foreign members of TB Joshua’s the Synagogue Church of All nations (SCOAN) — came down in the Ikotun area of the city on Friday.

“We are on the way to the scene and have no further details,” NEMA’s southwest coordinator Ibrahim Farinloye told AFP by telephone. There was no immediate official confirmation on casualties.

TB Joshua, dubbed “The Prophet”, is one of Nigeria’s most famous preachers and televangelists with thousands of followers across the world, attracted by his purported healing powers and prophecies.

According to his website, his church “hosts thousands of national and international visitors” every year.

“People travel from around the world to witness and receive from the mighty work that God is doing in the life of Prophet TB Joshua,” it states.
