Tema, Aug 20, GNA – An Opel Astra taxicab, on Wednesday afternoon, got gutted in front of Obonu FM in Tema. The driver, however, left the scene immediately the incident occurred. Staff of Obonu FM told the Ghana News Agency that due to witnesses’ claims that calls to the Tema Office of the Ghana National Fire Service were not answered; they (Obonu staff) mobilized themselves and used the company’s fire extinguishers to control the fire. They said personnel of the Fire Service arrived later at the scene and put out the fire within 15 minutes.

Mr Prince Billy Anaglatey, Tema Regional Fire Service Public Relations Officer confirming the incident, told the GNA that the fire could be attributed to a gas leakage in the vehicle and lack of maintenance. Mr Anaglatey advised drivers to engage the services of qualified mechanics in gas installation, to fix the gas cylinders in their vehicles when they intended to use gas to replace petrol.
