A driver, Richard Acquah, who sold a taxi he had been employed to drive and bolted, has been remanded in prison custody by the Agona Swedru Circuit Court. Acquah’s employer, one Felix Owusu-Ansah, a policeman, bought the car at GH¢9000 and gave it to Acquah to drive on commercial basis.
Two years later after Acquah had been arrested and charged with stealing, he affirmed his guilt and confessed that he sold the taxi for GH¢3,600.
The Prosecutor, Inspector Alfred Boatey, said Owusu-Ansah was stationed at Kasoa, while Acquah, 32, lived at Tipper-Junction, a suburb of Kasoa.
According to the prosecutor, Owusu-Ansah bought the taxi in August 2011 and gave it to Acquah to drive. Inspector Boatey said Acquah worked with the taxi for just three months and disappeared with the car.
He said all efforts made by Owusu-Ansah to trace the vehicle proved futile.
He said on July 6, 2013, one General Corporal Malik spotted Acquah at Spintex, a suburb of Accra, arrested him and escorted him to the Kasoa police station where he admitted having sold the taxi.
