Taxi driver remanded for defiling a student

Sunyani, Oct. 18, GNA- A circuit court at Fiapre near Sunyani has remanded a 22-year-old taxi driver into prison custody for allegedly defiling a 14 year old student at Odumasi in the Sunyani Municipality. Kwame Duffour pleaded not guilty to the charge of defilement and was ordered to reappear on October 19, 2007. Assistant Superintendent of Police Akwasi Amoako, prosecutor, told the court presided over by Mr. Owusu Gyamfi, that the accused lives in the same vicinity as the victim at Odumasi and was a former lover of the girl’s senior sister. He said Duffour in July this year, asked the victim to accompany him and a passenger on a trip to Kwatire, a near-by village, which the victim obliged.

But on their return Duffour suddenly stopped the vehicle near a cemetery and ordered the girl to remove her pants. ASP Amoako said the student pleaded with the accused to have mercy on her but he ignored her plea and forcibly had sexual intercourse with her in the vehicle.

He later warned her not to reveal the ordeal to anybody else she would die.

The prosecutor said the victim later fell sick and when interrogated by the parents she disclosed her ordeal at the hands of Duffour.

ASP Amoako said the girl’s parents reported the case to the police and the accused was arrested and charged with the offence after investigations.
