Taxi driver remanded for defiling 14-year-old

Cape Coast, July 20, GNA – Kofi Rockson, a 21-year-old taxi driver, who allegedly offered a 14-year-old schoolgirl a lift home, but instead took her to a hotel and sexually abused her, was on Tuesday remanded in prison custody by a Circuit Court in Cape Coast.

Rockson, who pleaded not guilty, would reappear on Tuesday August 2. The Prosecution said both Rockson and the victim lived in the same vicinity at Assin Fosu and that on July 12 this year, the victim was returning from school when Rockson, who was then driving a taxi, stopped to give her a lift.

It alleged that instead of taking her home, Rockson drove to a hotel and asked the girl to come and help him pick some items from one of the hotel rooms into the vehicle, and she obliged.

The prosecution said Rockson, “grabbed and pushed her on the bed” as soon as they entered the room and sexually abused her, the girl later reported him to her parents, who in turn informed the Police.

In another case, the court also remanded Peprah, a 48-year-old farmer into prison custody for allegedly defiling a 14-year-old epileptic patient at Assin- Assam on May 17 this year. He also pleaded not guilty and would re-appear on Tuesday August 2.
