Taxi driver remanded for allegedly stealing a taxi- cab

Cape Coast, Oct. 4, GNA – A taxi driver Robert Atta Sam 29, who absconded with a taxi cab he was engaged to drive, was on Tuesday remanded by a circuit court at Cape Coast. He pleaded not guilty to stealing and would be re-arraigned on October 24.

Chief inspector Augustine Amonoo, prosecuting told the court, presided over by Mr Mustapha Logoh that the complainant, a banker, about a month ago, engaged Sam to drive his Mazda taxi cab and it was agreed that he makes a daily sales of 70,000 cedis.

He said Sam absconded with the vehicle and all efforts to trace him after 18 days proved futile until September 9 when a witness who caused his arrest spotted him in Cape Coast.

Chief inspector Amonoo said during police investigations it came out that Sam took the vehicle to Essuehyia near Mankessim and engaged another driver to work for him, claiming the vehicle was his. He said the police made a follow-up to Essuehyia for further investigations, but the driver bolted on seeing Sam in handcuffs.
