Tatale-Sanguli residents live in fear after two days of deadly gun attacks

Residents of Monteigu and the adjourning communities in the Tatale-Sanguli district of the northern appear to have been left to their fate in the fight against gunmen who invaded the communities on two consecutive days.

Four suspected robbers were killed on Sunday May 21, 2017 evening in a foiled robbery attack on some traders at the Tatale market in Nyojado resulting in a gun battle, TV3 gathered.

Also four residents including the chairman of the National Democratic Congress in the Tatale-Sanguli constituency died when they joined the gun battle to protect their kinsmen.

When everybody thought all was over, the suspected robbers staged another attack on residents who had gathered for prayers at Monteigu also in the Tatale-Sanguli, killing one person Monday morning.

It is unclear whether the gunmen are armed robbers or have some other motive for their attacks, but TV3 can confirm that reinforcement team brought from the Yendi Divisional Police Command only visited the community Monday morning, spent some few minutes and disappeared without a trace.

Although police officers stationed at the Tatale-Sanguli District Police Command were not visible in the community, command personnel have been patrolling the Tatale township but not the scene of incident.

An eyewitness Jahja Thomas says, ” the suspected robbers seem to have gone on break thus allowing residents cool off but the residents are on alert because they are sure the gunmen will appear again as the only access road is by crossing the Otiko river that passes through the Nyojado community”.
