Tatale chief appeals to striking workers to resume

Obore Gariba Yankosor II, Paramount Chief of the Tatale Traditional Area, has appealed to public sector workers who are on indefinite strike to have the nation at heart and resume work while their leaders dialogue with the government.

He said it was sad for all schools nationwide to close down, particularly those in the rural areas who already lagged behind in infrastructure and lack of teaching and learning materials.

Obore Gariba Yankosor told the GNA in an interview that in June 2015 final year students of junior high schools would be writing their BECE and senior high schools would also start their final examinations in February and the strike would affect them negatively.

He said the hospitals and other health facilities, which were supposed to take care of the sick, were only attending to emergency cases and patients on admission.

The Chief appealed to the government and organized labour to find a lasting solution to the problem of the Second Tier pension scheme to ensure that the workers resumed work.

He said with the present outbreak of cholera in Ghana and the Ebola scare it was not advisable for health workers to go on strike because this was the time for them to get all the emergency protective materials at all emergency centres in readiness for any eventuality as far as Ebola is concerned.

Obore Gariba Yankosor, a retired educationist, also appealed to the Ghana Education Service, Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT), teachers and others to go back to work for the sake of humanity.
