Tarkwa Presbyterian Church donates to prisons

Tarkwa (W/R), Dec. 27, GNA – The Trinity Congregation of the The Presbyterian Church of Ghana at Tarkwa has donated items worth GH¢ 500.00 to the Tarkwa local prisons. The items included five mini-bags of rice, a mini-bag of sugar and some pastries.

Reverend Isaac Asare, Minister in charge of the church said it was the duty of Christians to give to the needy. He said offering a helping hand to the less privileged fell in line with the teaching of Jesus Christ. Rev Asare advised the inmates not to revisit the crime that resulted in their imprisonment, saying, prison was not a place where people cherished to live.

He said some people went to prison because of many reasons including the inability to present one’s case well in court. However, comparing the life of biblical Joseph who was once imprisoned but later became a minister, Rev Asare said it was not impossible for the Lord to raise some of the inmates to a pedestal where some people would question, “Was he not a prisoner?” Rev Asare said going to prison as a form of punishment was also a means to reform and to repent and therefore called on the inmates to lead exemplary lives after serving their prison terms.
