Out of 17 persons who were challenged during the biometric voters’ registration exercise in the Tarkwa Nsuaem Municipality, six have qualified to be registered to take part in Election 2012 while eleven were disqualified.
Mr. Edwin Opare, Deputy Electoral Officer in charge of the Municipality, said this on Monday when he briefed the Inter Party Dialogue Committee in Tarkwa on the outcome of the registration exercise.
He said the District Registration Review Committee, made up of a representative each from the traditional council, education service, political parties and electoral commission, met to deliberate on the challenged forms filled by political parties who doubted the eligibility of registrants during the registration exercise.
Mr. Opare said they were disqualified because they were either under-age, non-resident in the area or were not Ghanaians.
He said in order to capture those who did not register within the registration period, the Electoral Commission (EC) has set aside June 9th and 10th for a mop up on the registration exercise in Assaman Kakraba, Booboobo, Wangarakrom and Kwaobedu in the municipality.**
