Tarkwa (W/R), April 26, – GNA -The Tarkwa-Nsuaem Municipal Assembly (MCA) has projected GH¢ 3.19 million as the total revenue for 2008 fiscal year.
It is estimated that GH¢ 3.12 million will be spent on projects. The estimated budget surplus for the same period under review also amounted to GH¢ 68,940.
Mr. Robert Mensah, finance and administration chairman of the Tarkwa-Nsuaem Municipal Assembly disclosed this when delivering the budget statement and economic policy of the Assembly for the 2008 fiscal year at Tarkwa yesterday.
He said in 2007, out of a total revenue of GH¢ 2.9 million projected, GH¢ 2.8 million representing 94.9% was realized. He said the revenue generated in 2007 was an increase 42.6% over 2006 total revenue generated within that fiscal year which recorded a total revenue of GH¢1.9 million out of a total projected revenue of GH¢ 2.3 million and representing 82% of effective collection. Mr. Mensah said the remarkable improvement in the revenue generated was due to modest adjustments made on certain levels of fees charged in the fixing fees resolution of the Assembly. On the development front, he said, a total amount of GH¢ 1,835, 458. 78 projected for capital projects an amount of GH¢1,880,984 representing 102.4% was spent on projects.
However, Mr. Mensah said other development projects that were not started or completed were rolled over into the 2008 budget. He said, the 2008 budget took into account the purchase of 100 pieces of street light poles, construction of new Municipal administration complex, decongestion of the Tarkwa lorry park and rehabilitation works on football fields among others, adding, and implementation of such projects will depend on the availability of funds received both locally and externally.
Mr. George Mireku Duker, Tarkwa-Nsuaem Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) thanked the Assembly for accepting the budget. He told the Assembly members not to see themselves as unilaterally working for the development of the area but work in concert towards this goal and stop unnecessary lobbying and rumour peddling. Mr. Duker said vehicles will be embossed and machinery used by the Mines tasked to bring more revenue to the Assembly.
