Awudua (W/R), Feb 03, GNA – Gold Fields Ghana Limited (GFGL), Tarkwa Mine, has donated hospital items valued at 50 million cedis to Awudua Health Centre.
The items included 14 bedsteads and mattresses and drugs. Mr Emmanuel Kwasi Ayensu, the acting Wassa West District Chief Executive, told the people to take advantage of the Centre to meet their health needs.
Presenting the items, Mr Stephen Yirenkyi, Community Affairs and Public Relations Manager, GFGL Tarkwa Mine, said the needs of the Health Centre was carried out in consultation with Wassa West District Directorate of Health Services before the purchases were made.
Dr Teddy Avotri, Wassa West District Director of Health Services, said records indicated that a lot of women die through f delivery in the area and therefore a tiller ambulance would be stationed at Awudua to facilitate transfer of cases to Government Hospital, Tarkwa for further treatment.
He said though the tiller is not very fast, it would carry a patient from the village to the main road where faster vehicle would take the patient to hospital.
Dr Avotri said arrangements have been made with the Wassa West District branch of Ghana Private Road Transport Union (GPRTU) for drivers to give priority to patients and convey them quickly to the nearest hospital.
He said communication gadgets have been installed at some Health Centres in the district including Awudua for transmission of messages to nearest hospital and the GPRTU office at Tarkwa.
Miss Anaesthesia Eshun, the nurse in charge of the Centre, said antenatal care and delivery are free yet pregnant women do not attend the Centre.
She therefore appealed to pregnant women to attend the Centre to avoid complications.
Nana Afua Yaadwo II queen mother of Awudua praised GFGL for the role it is playing in the development of Apinto Traditional Area. She also commended the nursing sister at the Centre for her sacrificial work and pleaded for another nurse to assist her.
