Tarkwa, (W/R) June 8, GNA- Gold Fields Ghana Limited (GFGL), a mining company at Tarkwa, in collaboration with the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) marked this year’s World Environment Day, with the planting of trees in the Wassa West District. The company also donated 212 seedlings at the cost of 2.5 million cedis to the EPA.
Mr Ludwig Eybers, acting General Manager of GFGL pledged the Company’s support to preserve and enhance the environment. Mr Emmanuel Kwesi Ayensu, acting District Chief Executive asked the people to keep the environment clean. He spoke against indiscriminate felling of trees and expressed the need for the planting of more trees to sustain life.
Referring to a severe rainstorm that hit Tarkwa and its surroundings Mr Ayensu said the disaster could have been minimised if the people had planted trees to serve as windbreaks “If such unfortunate events could be prevented in the future, then people should inculcate the habit of planting trees around their buildings.”
Mr Ali Sando, District EPA officer said planting of trees prevented dust pollution.
