Tarkwa-Maakro-Techiman road to be rehabilitated

Offinso (Ash), Oct. 31, GNA – Work on the rehabilitation of the Tarkwa-Maakro-Techiman road is expected to begin soon. President John Agyekum Kufuor, who announced this at Offinso on Saturday, did not give details on the road that links Ashanti and Brong-Ahafo regions.

He was addressing separate durbars of the chiefs and people of Offinso and Afrancho as part of his six-day official tour of Ashanti Region.

President Kufuor said the project to be financed by the European Union (EU) had already been awarded on contract.

He said the Government was searching for partners to establish a tomato factory at Akomadan and appealed to the Offinso District Assembly and Offinso Traditional Council or Offinso citizens to take up the issue and the Government would provide the needed assistance.

On request for payment of compensation on lands acquired for the Barekese Dam, President Kufuor assured the people that the Lands Commission and the Ghana Water Company (GWCL) would take up the issue.

Nana Wiafe Akenten III, Offinsohene, said for the past three years, Government of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) had amply demonstrated democratic rule, the tenets of the Danquah-Busia tradition. He commended the Government for the able manner it had steered affairs of the country.
